Reminder about copying others' work

Academic Dishonesty:
Any type of academic dishonesty may result in a failing grade for the assignment and/or course.  Examples include the following:  looking in the direction of another student's quiz/exam or computer screen, checking your cell phone during a test, plagiarism, downloading and/or exchanging files, substituting another student's work for your own, using “cheat sheets,” etc.
Plagiarism:
Copying from books, magazines, your friends, or the Internet and using it in your own work without naming the author and source is called plagiarism and is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Plagiarism is considered cheating, is a very serious offense, and can result in very bad consequences for you.  It is easily discovered and it may cause you to fail your classes or even be kicked out of school. Plagiarism will also greatly slow your progress in learning to write proficiently in English.  In this class, plagiarism in written work or oral presentations can result in a zero (0/100) on the assignment, and could even result in failing this course. When you write a summary or an essay or give an oral presentation, both the choice of words and the grammatical structure must be your own.  To avoid plagiarism, ALWAYS do your own work !

Journal Assignment for April 20

            Freedom
There are many aspects of our lives in which freedom to do/be/think/act as we want is really important to us.  What does freedom mean to you?

Assignment:  Make a collage of pictures that represent  what YOU think freedom is.   You may write adjectives, metaphors, and similes around your collage to express in words what freedom is to you,  but you DO NOT write sentences.

A collage is a picture made of different pictures or objects.  You should include a variety of pictures so that you present your idea of freedom thoroughly.  Remember you will be graded on the way your page looks and what it expresses, so be sure to decorate your page with drawings, photos or other art and make sure they have a unified theme (freedom).

First Journal Assignment

Your first journal assignment is an illustrated "I Am" poem, following the example on the handout in class.  Your illustration may be a drawing, something you cut out from a magazine, or something you print from the computer.  It may be a picture of you or something that is very important to you.  The illustration should express something about you as a person.

Grading:  Effort, vocabulary, and presentation (how it looks) are all counted for the grade.

This blog is from a 9th grade English class and it has examples of "I Am" poems.  Check it out to see what these students did!
